WELCOME TO THE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE INTEVENTION ACADEMY
The program promotes accountability, respect, nonviolence, and healthier relationship behavior among adults who have used abusive or controlling behavior.
DVIA serves men and women in separate groups through in-person and live virtual classes. Facilitators follow state standards for group education, documentation, confidentiality, and ethical practice.
DVIA also offers prevention education and maintains Survivor Resources and Safety Support separately from the participant accountability program.
DVIA believes prevention is possible and meaningful change requires responsibility, consistent participation, and practice. Participants can begin through Start Intake; courts, probation officers, attorneys, and other professionals can use Refer a Participant.
PROGRAM LEADERSHIP & STAFF
Dr. Portia LaJoy Shipman, D.Hum., is the Founder and Administrator of the Domestic Violence Intervention Academy (DVIA) and President and CEO of Portia Shipman Enterprises, LLC. A longtime domestic violence advocate, humanitarian, entrepreneur, author, and community leader, she has dedicated more than three decades to strengthening families, supporting survivors, advancing prevention, and promoting accountability.
Through DVIA, Dr. Shipman leads a state-approved 26-week Domestic Violence Intervention Program serving Guilford County, North Carolina. She oversees program administration, community partnerships, court and referral relationships, participant accountability, and the continued development of in-person and virtual services.
Dr. Shipman is also the visionary behind the Paint the City Purple Campaign™, guided by the belief that lasting community safety begins with education, intervention, support, and accountability.

Stacie Young-King, BSBA, is the Founder, CEO, and Director of Life Renewed Corp, a Greensboro-based nonprofit supporting women and children affected by domestic violence. Drawing on more than 20 years of experience in sales and leadership and over five years in human resources management, she combines professional expertise with a personal commitment to helping survivors rebuild safe, stable lives.
Through Life Renewed Corp, she helps connect survivors with temporary shelter, counseling, financial education, credit-building support, and other community resources.
At DVIA, she serves as the Lead
Victim Services Advocate and Court Liaison Coordinator, supporting
survivor-centered referrals, safety
planning, court coordination, and community partnerships.
